When Is Water Line Replacement Necessary?
When deciding between water line repair or replacement, consider these three factors:
Material of existing piping – Galvanized steel, polybutylene, or old copper pipes are known to deteriorate over time and will need to be replaced as soon as possible to avoid collapse.
Age of existing piping – If your home was built before the 1970s and your pipes have never been replaced, it may be time to consider installing new water lines.
Frequency of repair – If your main water line has needed frequent repairs in the past year or so, replacing it may be more cost effective in the long run.
Choosing Your New Pipes
If you’ve made the decision to install new water lines, our team will go over your options.
Popular pipe options include:
- Copper (most durable)
- PEX (ideal for retrofits)
- CPVC (easiest to install)
- PP (polypropylene – most environmentally friendly)
The two most common pipes we install are copper and PEX. Each feature their own benefits and environmental impacts. We will review your preferences and your home’s specific plumbing needs to guide you towards the ideal pipe material.
